Drastic increases in rent as of late.
Which cities over 100K will be the easiest to find a studio apartment $450 or under? Can be anything that is functional and not in a crack area or similar deal breakers? Are any in non-freeze zones? Anyone know which census statistics might best answer this question? Helpful answers welcome.

I'd try to look around 1992.

But, seriously, this is a really tall order.

I know a place where you can rent studio/1-2 bedroom apartments in the $300-$500 range, but it's not on the mainland US.

Doubt you will find anything market rate at those prices there, though (along with Youngstown) probably are the closest. Really, if your price point is that low, you probably qualify for section 8 or a city/county housing agency (if background check passes).

Unfortunately, $300 to $500 a month is virtually impossible to find anywhere unless you are going through a slum lord.

Tulsa has some for $445, 400 sq. feet. But weather freezes a lot during the wintertime. Not in ghetto.

Along these lines....what do studios cost in cities?

All I know is that in Chicago, in a safe neighborhood not near downtown, you can find studios ranging from $900-$1,200. Typically in vintage buildings.
