Connecticut is Origin like Massachusetts. No doubt about it.

Nevada and Colorado are Destinations.

Texas seems Cosmopolitan.

Definitely agree with California as Insular. It's so common for people from the Bay Area or LA to just stay in one of those two metros and think "I have everything I need here, all my high school/college friends are here, why would I leave?" Not even really interested in traveling to other states, besides the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. I guess they're not wrong, if they can afford to live in the CA metros, but it seems like a boring life path.

Native Texans really love Texas.

Re: Nevada, I can see a lot of natives feeling constrained and leaving. Reno is just small (<1/2 the size of Providence MSA) and I can see Vegas not offering a ton in terms of white-collar jobs, depending on industry.

I live in South Central Kansas, near Wichita, and it feels insular.

Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but I'm confused how TX is insular. Isn't it pretty common knowledge that it's one of (if not the most) popular states that people are moving to?

Texas doesn’t make sense.
It’s been among the fastest growing states for decades.
Missouri and California both would seem to be at least light red, if not grey.
Being from Arkansas I never thought of it as being “cosmopolitan”. Seems too fancy a word. A LOT of us left but apparently have been replaced.

Texas seems to me more cosmopolitan or even destination...why is it red lol.

One thing to factor in - in the northeast, let say if you move from NYC to DC (or v.v.), you're already moving out of state.

Houston to DFW (or v.v.)? DFW to Austin? Houston to Austin? All in-state moves and yes...many Texans do move around, just staying within the state b/c they don't really have to leave the state for new opportunities.
