Following comments from my brief observations......perceptions are different from the "natives in some cases".

Corruption.
After Katrina, the Forest Service sent employees down to help with the recovery. Many were so "offended" by the corruption, they REFUSED another assignment to help.

We immigrated to the US and lived five years in New Jersey. It was why I got an education and became a forester. Never wanted to take a chance living there again.

The most embarrassing billboards in the US and I went to school at Berkeley during the late 60's and early 70's.
Great seafood. I don't know how people miss this.
Mosquito's. Wait, I was there in winter and came up with mosquito's. I don't want to see summer. Humidity.
Lots and lots and lots of people. If it wasn't a foot deep in water, there was somebody standing there.

Lived here for 40 years, Yeah, I know it was a mistake...but I always thought I could transfer to Montana. Oh well.
EVERGREEN?? My daughter was four years old and we were driving back from Portland at Biggs and reading the welcome to Washington sign when she asked the question "Why is Washington called the Evergreen State, when it is always BROWN"?
Grey?? Brown in the summer, white in winter on the ground, with blue skies. I guess for a couple of months under high pressure we get grey skies, but really just a few weeks.
Tech....eastern Washington is a total tech environment, from fiber optics at the turn of the century, to drones, Hanford, etc. etc. Tech I agree with.
Homeless....Only in the past few years. But then we have had thousands and thousands of urban refugees from the Seattle area flooding eastern Washington in the past few years. I even sold one of my houses to a homeless couple, that was living in a RV waiting for anything to buy.
