Here in mass I would also have to say the great plains is probably the least-known area, although I would also like to say I don't think I have ever heard Delaware mentioned on the news- probably means its a great place!

I don't think people in California realize there is a world beyond themselves. Maybe a little understanding of the northwest, Colorado, Las Vegas, and of course Mexico and vauge knowledge that NYC, Japan and China exist somewhere.

Just more proof that California is irrelevant. What a waste of oceanfront.

They don't get much news out there. It interferes with the drum circles and back-to-back episodes of the hills.

Well, I live in Minnesota and still hear nothing about places like Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, etc. I'm sure it has nothing to do with corporate media conglomorations based in the Northeast and California.

Oh wait, you can't read an thread on the general forum without hearing about Omaha for some reason...

You don't hear much about Wyoming, but that could be attributed to it being the least populated state. It's a pity that there's not much going on there though, because Wyoming is such a beautiful state. I do think it's a great tourist and vacation spot.

The Great Lakes.

Here in Cleveland, New Mexico should be considered a different country. But yet, that state has some of the best scenery I had ever seen.

It's funny there so much being mentioned about how the great plains are never thought of. When you think of it they have the advantage of wide open spaces.

Gee, thanks .

From where I live (rural Northern CA), I'd say I hear the least about the Eastern states. Specifically cities like Pittsburgh or states like Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, etc. NY is obviously talked a lot about, and D.C. as well, but not so much places like Boston or Philadelphia.

For more cultured Californians, the Great Plains area is brought from time to time because so many of our residents came here during the dust bowl, and the 'Okie' subculture is alive and well in some places. It brought us things like The Grapes of Wrath and the Bakersfield sound. Hell, there are still towns in CA where people talk with thick Oklahoman accents because the town is made up almost entirely of Oklahoman families.
