Are there any plans in your city to rip up downtown highways? One thing I can't stand in downtown areas of cities is highways! Just think of the development that could go in place of these highways and how much more pleasing to the eye it would be without them. So im interested, are there any plans in your city to rip up downtown highways?

Cleveland will be saying goodbye to the freeway that runs right between the Lakefront and Downtown.

Good to hear about Cleveland.
Seattle was still trying to figure out what to do with the Alaskan Viaduct, one option was a tunnel.
San Francisco demolished the Embarcadero Freeway to great success a while back I believe.

I hope that comes true for Cleveland. That freeway along the waterfront is a major barrier and distractor for the area. Boston eliminated their freeway in the "big dig". It was expensive as hell but worth every penny. That area of the city is much more livable today.

Milwaukee got rid of the Park East Freeway, which was an elevated freeway spur that separated Downtown from the historic Brewer's Hill neighborhood to the north. The city is really starting to see the fruits of that wise decision come to bare as the northern portion of Downtown is undergoing revitalization that is tying in to the renaissance going on in Brewer's Hill.

There is a MAJOR ongoing debate in Louisville about a proposed reconstruction/ expansion of Spaghetti Junction (where I-65, I-64, & I-71 all converge Downtown which would include a new 8 lane bridge next to the existing one). A grassroots group called 8664 has emerged to opose this plan, calling instead for I-64 to be rerouted along a new bridge connect the IN & KY sections of I-265 and then removing the I-64 causway from I-65 to I-264 at Portland.

If you drive around Louisville you see 8664 stickers and yard signs everywhere
