Prepare to add Philly to NYC... In a number of years... About 10.
Statistically that just doesnt add up. Philadelphia is too strong a job center on its own to really depend on NY in the way that warrants combining Metro Areas. It has to be 15% of all workers commuting from one MSA to another. Currently I dont even think its 2%.
These are things that would take far more than just 10 years. Right now, The Bay Area is looks like its going to be adding Stockton perhaps in 10 years, which now has a commuter rate of about 15% into The Bay Area, but who knows.
There are a tremendous number of people who now commute from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, an immediate suburban area of Philadelphia, into New York City daily for work. Hypothesizing that by 2020 NYC and Philadelphia will be one large CSA is not at all far-fetched. For that matter Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton in PA will also likely be included in that megalopolis with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following suit shortly thereafter. Do you not realize just how far sp-r--a---w----l-----e------d out NYC is becoming?

My grandfather did that for years, in the 60s and 70s. Yardley, PA to Canal Street in Manhattan. He really was ahead of his time! lol
Bucks County borders the City of Philadelphia, but it seems there's as much commuting activity going north as there is going south anymore! NJTRANSIT needs to work out a deal with SEPTA and the locals to get the West Trenton line back in service.
2%? 40% of the people my dad used to work with commuted from Philly to NYC every day.
Actually, it may appear that way to some, but the Census Bureau does in fact, keep a tally of this and here are the number of daily commuters from:

^ wow, I can't believe how many people from SJ County commute into the Bay Area. I think a lot of people consider Tracy part of the Bay Area b/c I definitely have heard people from there refer to it as "The Bay Area". The Bay Area has definitely pushed beyond it's natural geographic boundaries.
