Any place in the Deep South and thats all they have. Oh, yeah we're Southern! Thats what makes us unique.
Virginia is not just merely Southern. Its such a distinctive place and home to so many great things. Mother of Presidents, and its just totally unique. Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia.. Hmmph.. they just seem to kinda be strung together. Nothing really remarkable about them.
I just notice a contention here. Because I dated a gal once from Alabama and being from Richmond I was very proud of it. Well she said ya know, Virginia "isnt the REAL South" like we are in Alabama. And so I thought about it for a minute, and I was like , well what does Alabama have that we don't have?
Um, let me see for Virginia
Longest running Capital of the Confederacy- Check
Robert E Lee - Check
Birthplace of Country Music- Check
Patsy Cline- Check
Southern Plantation homes- check
Cotton, peanuts, tobacco -check
Southern cooking , accents, charm- check
Black farmers - check
Hmm.. Okay, so we're not the Deep South geographically, but what gives her the right to tell us we're not "The real" South.
Like what ever came out of Alabama that is so special?
She went on to say that Virginia is to the South what Maine is to New England. Its too far North and nobody cares.
Well y'all cared enough when Sherman came marching through Georgia. Would have happened 4 years sooner if it weren't for us holding up the fort.
I used to live in Mississippi, and as far as the good people of Mississippi were concerned, Virginia shouldn't even be considered as part of the South anymore. Virginia sold its soul to Northerners a long time ago other than the southwestern part of the state.
Ya'll were the capital all right, but MY state started the whole succession thing in the first place, and as far as "holding up the fort" sweetie, its OUR fort where the action started. Ever hear of Sumter? It aint in Virginia.
Without it you wouldnt have been a capital...so hush it up and find new topics dear. Virginia has sold out to Northerners anyway.
I used to love Richmond...it was one of my favorite cities, for many reasons that I WILL NOT list here. This guy has caused me - and others on this forum I'm sure - to despise Richmond...and I hate any word begining with "rich"...and now I can't even stand anyone named Richard...
