The City of London publishes a World Cities Financial Centres Report ostensibly to assess where it stands in relation to the rest of the world.
NYC is number 2 with Chicago and Boston also included in the top ten.

The fact that Boston is in their top 10 brings the list into serious question. Boston would be at the bottom of the top 10 in North America alone.

I'm just suprised Tokyo is down at 15th! I've always thought of it as third beind New York and London.

I agree. I think this "study" is pretty suspect. Let's see, the City of London decides that London is the world's top financial center, even ahead of NYC, while London's main rival, Paris, is 19th?? I don't think so.

CSFB, Bain Capital, FleetBoston, etc. Boston is a major financial player.

City of London is the hedge fund and private equity capital; it has surpassed NYC within the past 5-10 years.

Edit: this list is not about stock markets, it's about m&a and private equity financial deals, as well as banking. Tokyo is not heavily involved in this area.

This "list" is a major hoot! There are some cities I've barely heard of on it! Denver probably ranks higher than some of them.
