Indianapolis.

Big city with a small city feel. Having now lived here almost 15 years it still surprises me at times how large it truly is.

Detroit? A Midwestern city? No way partner. Other Midwestern cities like Detroit such as St. Louis, Chicago, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, etc. have a lifestyle that is anything but laid back from what I've noticed.

How about in addition to New Orleans Birmingham, Little Rock, Jackson, Memphis, Chattanooga, and Charleston, SC? Those cities all seemed pretty laid back and relaxed to me.

Denver's a big metro area with a small town attitude and big city ammenities. Especially once you get out of downtown life is relaxed and more traditional.

On the other hand, I've always found Portland, OR to be a mid-sized city with a big city feel. It's very sophisticated and cosmopolitan in the same way you'd find in Seattle or Boston. Yet, the city isn't overwhelmingly large.

Phoenix-- the roads are certainly not slow paced, but everything else is.
Where have you been? Phoenix isn't fast on a scale with New York but it's still fairly fast-paced.

Denver seems like it has a slower pace of life. Other cities like Charlotte N.C. or Charleston S.C. seem to have a slower paced lifestyle. Southern cities in general seem to be a bit slower overall (with exception of Atlanta) and have more of the "stop and smell the roses" type of pace.

Depends on how you define "slow paced". I personally consider Cincinnati to be one of the most regressive places in the US. (Don't bash me....I live here, so I'm allowed to say that. ) It takes forever to get anything done around here.

I'd imagine that Fort Lauderdale has a rather slow paced lifestyle.
