My fiancee and I are looking to move to a nice area, we are both 20 years old. We currently live in South Jersey and would like to relocate to a town in the northern U.S because we both enjoy the mid to low temperatures. We are both in college, she is studying business management and I am studying computer programming. She is pretty well grounded in Walmart so her job situation is not much of a concern but I would be looking in the paper or on-line for a place to work.

We are looking to rent for a little while and eventually purchase if we like the area. We are looking for a house for less than 80k, I know that usually means sacrificing some areas of security, income, and growth in the town itself, but we are able to compromise. Our goal is to move out of New Jersey by September-October.

It would be greatly appreciated if we could get some help, and if anyone has questions about New Jersey then feel free to pm me and I will help you the best that I can.

Thank You.

Are you thinking north as in NE, NW or Northern midwest?

We would like to stay in the NE, but moving to the NW is fine as well, we just want to find a nice town where the weather is cold.

I kind of had my eye on Syracuse and I like it so far. We are planning a road trip next month for about two to three weeks and I would like some towns in NY and Pa that would meet my search criteria, Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

To elaborate, Syracuse has cold, snowy winters. They have a kick ass winterfest if that counts as anything. < $80K for a decent to nice house is VERY possible. It's truly a beautiful underrated city.

This is possible in some of the more working class suburbs in the area in decent to good school districts too. Some that come to mind are: Mattydale, Nedrow, East Syracuse, Solvay and the Galeville neighborhood/community in the Liverpool area. Here's some information that might help: Central New York Jobs
#1 Syracuse NY Real Estate Website | Homes for Sale | Realtor | CNYREALTOR.COM (look in Onondaga County)
Syracuse Apartments for Rent | Syracuse Apartment Finder

Binghamton, Oswego, Cortland, Utica and maybe Geneva are smaller cities that might work too. Possibly Ithaca too.

think outside the box and google Madison,WI. Its suburb, Middleton, is consistently ranked in the top 5 for best cities to live.

I have heard many good things about Madison, although I haven't heard/read much on Middleton. I will definitely look into finding out more information on these towns.

Any more ideas in mind? =]
