Peaches are grown in many states but Georgia is the peach state.
I don't know if I'll actually do this but during peach season, which an be short, I fantasize about
a road trip that goes to different orchards and trying different old fashioned varieties, fresh, at that perfect moment of ripeness, right there at the orchard. (I'm in OH)
People do Bourbon tours, wine tours, all sorts of tours. I want to do a Peach tour!
Peaches more than some fruit really have a huge difference between just picked fresh and shipped.

A fresh picked at just the right moment peach just can't be beat.

Are there orchards that allow for that? Grow more than the 2 or 3 varieties that ship best commercially?

Anyone have favorite old orchards? Specific memories of types of peaches?

Pearson farms near Ft. Valley. Small, family owned. You can actually mingle with the ladies as they grade and pack the peaches. Homemade peach ice cream is delicious. I think Lanes tends to attract the tour busses more than Pearsons.
