It's a place in which I've been considering living. But I want to hear more opinions from people who know it. How would you describe it?

very slow paced, but plenty of amenities. conventiently located to other cities, and the housing is very affordable.

if you're going to need a job, be aware that decent paying work is scarce here right now.

its a safe town; there's crime in certain areas, but as long as you stay out of the less safe areas of town you'll be fine.

lots of college students here also, so there is that to contend with when you're looking for a night out.

Thanks very much. So is the crime a noteworthy element, or is it basically like the crime that you'd find in almost any place you live? Because bad neighborhoods frighten me, haha.

I would pick either Thomasville or Valdosta to live in if I had to live in southwestern Georgia. Friendly people, slow pace of life and convenient overall. Valdosta is a good choice for that area. The job situation does matter, so definitely keep that in mind.

Valdosta isn't in Southwest Georgia. Thomasville, yeah, I can see that, but certainly not Valdosta.

Really? You're going to compare these two cities? For one, Tallahassee is more than double the population of Valdosta. (A metro of 367K versus 139K) Not a fair comparison at all. For a town of similar size, Valdosta is more comparable to Dothan or Albany.

OK, I stand corrected, but Valdosta is close to Southwest GA, as nearby Moultrie does qualify as a Southwestern GA town. Valdosta is geographically a south central GA town though it is on the "cusp" of being in southwest GA.

To the OP, you should visit the area if you are interested in living there. I know some people really like small southern town living while others prefer much bigger cities like Atlanta. There is definitely a lot to consider when moving to some place that might be quite different than what you are used to.
