I haven't been able to verify it, but apparently Aldi wants to open a store on the east side of Athens near the intersection of College Station Road and Barnett Shoals Road.

I don't understand the Family Dollar expansions, since the company is reportedly in bad financial shape and is being acquired by Dollar Tree. Reminds me of the Revco expansion back in the '90s, when the company announced they were building something like 50 free-standing stores and then right after declared bankruptcy -- leaving 50 empty stores.

^^^ Should have said, Revco announced an expansion of 50 free-standing stores in Metro ATL -- and then declared bankruptcy and went out of business. But because the new stores were already under contract, they had to build them out -- leaving dozens of empty, never occupied buildings.

And I bet the CEO still got a huge bonus.

I shall never understand the bizarre world of retailing:

While I lived in Albany for seven months, Family Dollar added two or three new stores and Dollar General added probably five just in that time period. Statesboro has seen at least three new Dollar Generals in the past couple years and another going in Brooklet I believe. I suppose the dollar stores are trying to copy Walmart Neighborhood Markets strategy - one on every street corner... Well I guess we should offer that credit to Starbucks.

I wonder if Walmart Express will be built out after their are finished saturating us with grocers? Poor gas station convenience stores :-/.

This link provides a short list is some of the upcoming retail offerings in Georgia's secondary markets (secondary, meaning non-Atlanta). I'm sure folks in their respective cities already know about a lot of these projects, but this list shows that most of Georgia's markets are growing to some degree.

Included in the list are:

Aloft Hotel, Cheddars, Chipotle, Forever 21, H&M, Jimmy Johns, Lucky Brand, Pollo Tropico, Swim 'n Sport, Ulta, Uncle Maddios, Walmart Neighborhood Market, Zumiez

Hell No to Walmart anythings.

The new proposed shopping center in north Macon is showing a BJs and Home Goods with both being new to our market. At Home is opening its first mid Ga location in Warner Robins this summer. I hope this all comes to fruition.
