We are on a 3 year plan now to move. As it grows closer our quest for a retirement destination has been narrowed down to a few different locations. One that has hit the radar that seems to check off a lot of boxes for us, is NW GA. I am looking into Dade county (Trenton) and Walker county (Chickamauga). I've been doing a lot of research into these areas and a large part of Northern GA. My husband would like mountains/foothills, and I want milder winters and lots of sunshine. Good amenities, and 2 hours or less of a major airport. I've narrowed it down so far to Trenton and Chickamauga. I can't find much negatives about these areas. I want a small town, and both of these fit that bill. Also places to do a lot of walking/hiking. I've done a lot of research on line about the counties and cost of living and all, but just wanted to hear from locals as to what they think of living there. I like an openly friendly area, conservative vibe. Pretty views and things to get involved in. Our budget is probably up to 200,000, and would maybe like a little land with a home.

I am open to other suggestions on areas. We plan to make a look around trip soon. We have driven through there before, but haven't stayed there yet.

Thank you!

My suggestion is to look at as many counties as you can along the Georgia , North Carolina ,Tennessee & Alabama borders. They are all very different from each other and offer different things. For hiking,Lumpkin, Fannin, Union, Towns and Rabun offer super quick access to trails. Some of these areas will offer great lake access ( Rabun as an example has 3 to choose from). if you want quaint ,quiet places Suches ( in Union County) and Young Harris ( in Towns County ) can fit this criteria. Bustling beautiful downtowns ,Dahlonega( Lumpkin County),Blue Ridge & McCaysville ( Fannin County), and Clayton ( in Rabun county) all can fit that bill. They all fall within the 2 to2 1/2 hour range to the Atlanta airport with good highway access.

Thank you for your reply! We do plan to look all around. My husband wants to have some mountain views too.
