Well Thank You!

My mother is a native of Smith County, outside of Laurel.

Anyway, I hope this was of some entertainment or use to the original poster. The Delta is just an interesting region in general, and I hope somebody takes up some interest to visit.

Thomasville has some old plantations just outside of town that very much have a Southern Gothic vibe.. When I think Southern Gothic.. I always think of Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte

Another one that should top the list of towns with a sense of 'faded Southern glory' is Sparta. In the antebellum period it was the state's wealthiest town and the epicenter of Georgia's cotton industry. You'll find many timeworn mansions and churches there.

I didn't read through all the posts, so this might have been said already, but the coastal areas is where most of the Southern Gothic vibe can be found. Savannah seems obvious, but I would also recommend Darien and some of the areas around Brunswick. Foggy early mornings in a grove of ancient moss-laden live oaks - the coast is where that can be found.

Also Bainbridge in SW Georgia definitely has the feel.
