With all of the industrial development happening along I-85 Northeast, the widening of this highway cant happen soon enough. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I-85 is a solid wall of development from Newnan to Commerce one day.

A Korean developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries for hybrid electric vehicles is pledging a major investment in northeast Geogia that would create more than 2,000 jobs, according to Gov. Nathan Deal's Office.

Deal said Tuesday that SK innovation, a subsidiary of of the SK Group, one of the largest conglomerates in South Korea, is planning to invest $1.67 billion in a new manufacturing plant in Jackson County.

The proposed manufacturing plant would be constructed in two phases — each adding approximately 1,000,000 square feet of manufacturing space and including more than 1,000 advanced manufacturing employee hires, according to a news release. The exact location of the plant was not released.

Default Construction of SK battery plant to proceed after settlement with LG in trade dispute

One of Georgia's largest economic development projects can move forward after two South Korean electric vehicle battery companies settled a trade secrets dispute over the weekend.

Quote:
The two companies reached a settlement Sunday after intense negotiations and meetings with Democratic Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock as well as Republican Gov. Brian Kemp. Ossoff told reporters Monday that he got involved with leaders of both companies once it seemed like talks were stalling...

... In exchange for the sprawling plant being allowed to finish construction and open up, SK agreed to pay $1.8 billion in cash and royalties to LG and both companies agreed not to sue each other for a decade as part of an agreement to allow the companies "to peacefully coexist in the global market and compete in good faith."

Maybe it’s just the media slant but it appears Ossoff was actively working on this with multiple meetings. Warnock not so much.

If true, then my hat’s off to Ossoff. While I didn’t vote for him this is what I expect out of a Senator, so if he does more of the same my vote might be different in 2026.

Senator's get way too comfortable after their 2nd term in DC. Perdue's last term he was there to collect a paycheck & enrich himself, you could tell he was completely out of touch during his campaign.

Let's see how Ossoff does over his next 4 years as this is a small sample size, but if he keeps this up I'm all for it.

Do you mean let’s see how Ossoff does over his next almost 6 years?

Ossoff was elected to a full six-year term and is not up for re-election until 2026.

I know it's a 6 year term, but majorities will change over the next 4 years. If he is in the minority in the senate with a republican president, then it's hard to grade him. Right now he is in the majority, which I don't think will change in 2022, as the map is very favorable to democrats. 2024 is different & a presidential year.

The Senate will be close. Unless something insane happens the Republicans will take the House.

So compromise and an ability to negotiate will be critical.

Those are good points, but like any and every U.S. Senator who runs for re-election at the end of a full 6-year term, Ossoff is going to be judged on his job performance over that full nearly 6-year period, not just on his job performance over the first 4 years of his 6-year term.

If Ossoff performs well over his first 4 years but makes at least one major blunder sometime within the last 2 years of his 6-year term as U.S. Senator, including in a time frame that is really close to the 2026 election, he will be judged on that part of his record.

Heck, there is a scenario where a U.S. Senator like Ossoff could do an excellent job throughout his entire 6-year term and still not be re-elected due to forces beyond his control, like a massive wave election that sweeps many Democratic politicians out of Congress and replaces them with Republicans because of anger at an incumbent Democratic presidential administration, a combination very low Democratic voter turnout and very high Republican turnout, etc.

It has happened before with seemingly well-performing politicians being swept out of office because of national trends beyond their control (like being a politician of the wrong political party in a state where the vote is trending heavily towards the opposite political party, etc.).

The near entirely of his 6-year term as U.S. Senator is going to count towards his re-election campaign, not just the first 4 years.
