Just happened. About 4:15 a.m. on December 12.

Heard a strange noise - thought it was the wind shaking the house at first. Shaking went on for about a minute - whole house shaking, table shaking. Realized it was an earthquake!

Went to an earthquake web site and saw people all over Georgia reporting it at the same time! From Atlanta and all the way up here in the mountains, and into North Carolina.

Does Atlanta have earthquakes? Is this common?

In August 2011, we had an earthquake in Norfolk, Virginia (centered in Louisa, Virginia) and to my knowledge, it was a first.

I'm in Marietta and didn't feel anything, I slept right through it. But I remember the earthquake from August 2011 too, I was in NC for that one and felt that one pretty good.

And no, earthquakes are not common in Atlanta.

I was in Ellijay and I guess I must have slept through it.
