Some of Georgia’s leading entertainment businesses sought to meet with Gov. Brian Kemp after he signed the anti-abortion “heartbeat” bill into law, but the Republican has not responded to the May 22 request.

About 15 companies sent Kemp the letter requesting a meeting at EUE/Screen Gems. They wanted to discuss the fallout from his support of the abortion restrictions, which has led some Hollywood figures to threaten to leave if the law takes effect..."

Now I really don't blame the film/tv industry if they boycott Georgia.

Kudos to the film/tv industry leaders for trying to be the adults in the room. But it's clear they're not dealing with an adult given the lack of respect for their time and concerns regarding his poor leadership skills.

But ARE the filmmakers being the adults in the room? This letter is well-balanced, but then you have comments by people like Reed Morano and Alyssa Milano that just inflame rather than inform.

This letter is coming from the actual filmmakers from Georgia. I think Kemp owes them at least a face to face since they don't get the credits that the big studies out of Hollywood get.

I think so, too, but he knows that he will likely be met with hostility from that camp; it's a no-win. At this point, having signed the damn thing I think he wants to distance himself from it as much as possible. Out, damn spot I say!

When you're the governor of a state with 10 million people, you can't just decide to get up, take your ball and go home when you make poor decisions.

I think he's trying to send a message to his base that he doesn't care about the film industry. His base doesn't care about how this hurts Atlanta and Savannah.

Kemp is going to have to make a lot of hard political choices the next 3.5 years. He's going to have to balance making the hayseeds happy without alienating too many moderate suburban Republicans. He probably made the wrong choice in this instance. I know quite a few moderates who work in film/tv and they're livid.
