Paulding County, Georgia is a rapidly growing area, and with it has come an increased need for improved roads. Unfortunately, the county has not kept up with the increasing population growth, and the roads are now in serious need of upgrading. The result is an over-development of the county, with roads that are overcrowded, dangerous, and inadequate.

What’s going on in Paulding County, with growth and development and outpacing the ability of the local road network to handle the increased traffic generated by said growth and development pressure, is what is going on in pretty much every other metro Atlanta county except Clayton County, which completed its growth and development phase decades ago.

Though, it probably should be noted that some of the main roads through Paulding County are owned and maintained by Georgia state government (by way of GDOT - Georgia Department of Transportation) and are the responsibility of Georgia state government to upgrade and maintain, not Paulding County government.

(Major roads like US-278/GA-6, GA-92, GA-61, Business Route GA-6/old GA-6 Merchants Drive, GA-120 Charles Hardy Parkway, GA-360 Macland Road, and Connector GA-120 Hiram Sudie Road are the responsibility of Georgia state government… So it’s not really anything that Paulding County government can do to upgrade those particular routes that are under the purview of Georgia state government.)

Otherwise, I actually personally kind of like Paulding County as a good outer-suburban living option for working-class families with lower-middle incomes.

Much of Paulding County’s growth of population and development appears to have spilled over into the county from neighboring Cobb County which is nearly built completely out with development at this point.

I have a friend who grew up in the Mableton/South Cobb area back when it was a rural agricultural community back in the mid 20th Century. My friend graduated from South Cobb High School in the same class with former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes, who also grew up in the Mableton area.

My friend actually moved to South Paulding County back around the turn of the millennium to getaway from the increasing urbanization that Cobb County was experiencing at the time and has continued to experience through today.

Along with a very large number of people moving directly into the county from outside of the state of Georgia, Paulding County also appears to be a significant relocation destination for residents seeking to move away from increasing urbanization in neighboring Cobb County.
