Am I the only one more interested in the smaller cities of Georgia rather than the large ones? Some data for each of the GA micropolitan areas below, listed in alphabetical order.

(P.S. this template is kinda repetitive, I didn't realize how many of these areas were made up of single counties…)

(P.S.S. what do you think of the micropolitan areas? start a discussion if you want…)

It seems like the smaller areas of Georgia are generally isolated and continue to decline, and most of the growth (and resources) occurs in metro areas. Two of the faster growing micros here are Jackson County (between Gainesville and Athens) and Statesboro, which is part of the Savannah CSA.

In GA, so many of these areas seem to be interstate warehouse/DC towns, no? Meaning the commerce from being a big warehousing hub to the SE region is what brings people to many of these.

I care more about the smaller cities (Columbus, Augusta, Macon, Savannah, Valdosta, La Grange, Dalton, Rome, etc.) than the micropolitan areas to be honest? I personally like the idea of a central downtown mixed use node that everything else centers around.

Good data, thanks for sharing!

The first four are the state's second-tier cities and metro areas. The last four are just towns, really (one of them, La Grange, is in fact a micropolitan area). Micropolitan areas in other states are doing better than Georgia's, and as UptownRes says, the fast-growing ones in GA are linked to the Atlanta-Athens and Savannah CSAs.

It's true that most growth is happening in the metro areas and that the micropolitan areas are fairly isolated but 16 out of the 23 micros (2/3 of the micropolitan areas) had positive growth, however small. They're pretty stagnant on average but, hey, you gotta take what you can get, right?

St Marys also has decent growth, but that is probably spillover growth from metro Jacksonville.

I’m surprised Candler county isn’t included with Statesboro, they’re so close together. One would think there are quite a few commuters into Statesboro from nearby Candler.

Maybe that will change with all the jobs coming to Bulloch.
