I am looking to move from the unfriendly world of Wash DC to Atlanta, GA and would like to know what the singles over 35 world is like there. I am not a city girl and prefer the mountains to the ocean, love animals and would like to be in a location that is somewhat country and somewhat city.

Any suggestions?

Also, what is the best route to find work?

I'll be interested to hear what people living in Atlanta have to say about the over 35 singles scene. I've investigated it a bit myself and talked with a few friends and family of mine that live there or have lived there -- and they are pretty positive.

From what I can tell so far there are a large variety of singles groups for over 35, and even for 50's and 60's also. There are 2 or 3 organizations that run weekly dances with a large attendance and singles hiking and traveling groups. A singles choir group, a singles wine tasting group and there is some new upscale singles group that goes to gourmet restuarants, the theater etc. Seems to be a large variety. I also understand there are several singles church groups too if that is your cup of tea. What I haven't seen is a singles volunteer group yet -- hope to find that. There was one in DC -- singles getting together to do charity work and similar building projects like Habitat for Humanity etc.

If you like th mountains but still want to be within commuting distance of Atlanta I would suggest Cumming or Canton. Both of these are beautiful communites about 40 minutes noth of Atlanta, without traffic. They offer the best of both worlds and still have affordable homes unlike the rest of Atlanta which is seeing a sharp increase in the cost of new homes. Oh, and by affordable I mean you can still find homes up there in the $150s to $200s range.

There are many clubs and bars that cater to the 35 and over crowd. There is at least one located in every Atlanta suburb and with thirteen counties making up the metro and countless citites within them, that'll give you alot of options for meeting people. Creative Loafing, our free local liberal newspaper, offers a listing of social groups you can join as well and they range from book clubs to dance organizations to swim teams...they even have hiking and whitewater rafting groups listed. And they cater to eveyone in these lists, not just the left leaning.

There are many churches in the area that have active singles groups - I frequented three at Roswell United Methodist Church, St. Anns Catholic Church and First United Methodist Church Marietta. There was always something to do including dances, dinners, rafting, wine tastings, etc.

My calendar was always full and I met many terrific people including members of the opposite sex.
