I actually voted 'public' b/c I take the damn CCT bus everyday to work and am a long time 'red' resident of Cobb but see the value. However, I don't agree with forcing other Cobb voters to foot the bill to pay for it, where a very small percentage would use it.
I've lived in NE Cobb County for 16 years...while owning a home here and renting my house in the City of Atlanta. I think we're all a becoming a little bit "purple" [middle of road? ] when it comes to those decisions regarding public transportation and sharing of costs. As far as I can see, the political demographics in Cobb are changing just slightly ...

Good 4 you BTW for the CCT use. I'm applying to CleanAirCampaign for taking MARTA from Mansell Road P&R to Airport. Fortunately only have to go once per week.

I detest assigning blame however. Doesn't prove anything really.

Well i the reason i asked because.as i stated in my original post I felt that Sonny Perdue was spiteful in his decision to reduce the progress we were making had when Roy Barnes was Gov,I as a proponent of Mass transit was furious because their was no reason to scale things back.I agree partisan politics can be a road to nowhere, but sometimes there is blame. This is why i asked the question as it relates to Georgia.I am looking for the answers to why in this state we are not making progess.I do know that according to statistics mostly Republican supporters rejected Marta or other rail options expansions to the suburbs.I admit I don't know all the details but no one has said no you're wrong either.I want to know because when i am writing these politicians I want to know who has been blocking the funding of what this area needs critically.Im not trying to prove anything. However politician should be held accountable. So my question is who is to blame for the slow progress that we need in mass transit in Atlanta and Georgia?and why?

Years ago under Governor Roy Barnes, he set things in motion for such a thing. He was the leader in establishing the Georgia Regional Transit Agency, (GRTA) and the thought was that they would eventually have the authority (and funding) to override local governments when it came to transit. In other words, if they thought the rail should be expanded into a particular area, it would. No voting or political drama - it would just be done.

Unfortunately, people saw past that and voted Mr. Barnes out of office because something apparently much more pressing was at issue... he took the Confederate emblem off the state flag and the universe collapsed as a result. He was voted out, and "Sonny" was voted in. Well, he got in, forgot about the flag, and he has also made very public statements to the news media that he has absolutely no thoughts about public transit. As a matter of fact, in the last budget proposal, he didn't even earmark any funds for any public transit projects in the state. None. He said it's "not an issue". He did of course, take the time to legalize fireworks, for as we know, allowing children to play with explosives is more important than public transit, isn't it? (roll eyes)/

Story in the transit budget here: http://www.11alive.com/news/article_...?storyid=90658 (http://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=90658 - broken link)

So the GRTA now has little other than basic funding, and their roll has been chipped down to basically adding an occasional "express bus route" here and there. With an average of up to 90,000 people per year moving into the metro area, we can only hope that the next person that's elected to office puts a much higher priority on transit. Each year makes it that much worse, and we've got a few more years of transit being ignored before the opportunity comes up to do more from someone else of power.

In other words - get used to driving in traffic here.

Just as i thought, its an urban vs rural problem.People can be so selfish an ignorant to where they cant see it benefits the whole state. This is where leadership comes in.Our leaders today in Georgia are the worst ever in my opinion. We are actually going backwards in some ways.Thats Dems and Republicans. They are all good ole boys without an inch of progressive thinking or spine to stand up to anything substanative.

Yeah...they've got Obama and Daley... really moving forward.

The CTA system was built for the most part, as most of the older city transit systems were, years ago. Other than the O'Hare extension, what has really been built in the way of transit in Chicagoland in the last 40 years?

Thats state politics.Illinois is nothing without Chicago. What Joiliet?lOL.ALL your mayors have had a least one ethics charge or investigation against them. Its obvious you're jealous.Thats why you keep poping up on Atlanta's threads.Sure i love Chicago for 3months but im packing my bags soon as the first ice forms. Most of Chicago beauty is Man made.At least Atlanta has both and its everywhere not just for a few Rich people who can live on or near the lake.Thats why i could not live in Chicago or NYC for too long, they are concrete jungles .
