Thoughts or concerns about this area? Looking at possibly renting--no more than a year--until we get orientated to the GR area and look for more permanent arrangements.

That's a cool area. You're right in the heart of Eastown, by Wilcox Park, and walking distance to East Grand Rapids and Reeds Lake Trail (if you like to bike/run/walk). Grab a pint at Harmony Brewing Company, breakfast at Wolfgang's or coffee at Kava House on Lake Drive and you'll get a good feel for the neighborhood.
The quality of the homes are mixed, as they all date back to the early 1900's.

My wife says it looks bohemian or quaint. I will be looking for a good dinner place so maybe a burger at Harmony?

I think all they have is pizza at Harmony. There are a lot of other restaurants in that area, and over in East Hills to the West (Cherry & Diamond). A ton actually. Brewery Vivant has great beer and burgers on the menu.

We live a few blocks to the west closer to East Hills and LOVE it! Hope you do, too.

I love that area. Wolfgangs restaurant for breakfast, East Town Antiques, Billie's Blues Bar, Indian food, Ethiopian food, Spirit Dreams Store, and of course, Yesterdog. Which was made famous (although a different name) in the movie, American Pie. Oh and it's on my favorite bus route to downtown from the mall and back.
