I just finished a phone survey being conducted by GRPS asking if I support a 1.25 mil increase for 25 YEARS. I of course said NO. "But it will only cost the owner of a $100K home $62.5/yr or $5.21/month" he told me. Palease who owns a house assessed at only $50K.

That $112.5/yr it will cost me today will cost me $652/yr or $54.33/month by the end of the 25 year millage proposal but they don't tell you that.

BTW, the proposal is to upgrade the city's high schools, better known as: Drop-out Factories.

It will provide new computers, bleachers and nice new offices for the administrators. All for just $125,000,000

They don't need this stuff. Plenty of future leaders will come out of the private school systems.

I see you are selling your house in EGR and bailed on the whole state to move to CO. So what exactly are you supporting here in MI?

What about the people already struggling to pay their own bills?

I support my sister-in-law, my brother, my uncle, my father, and my aunt, who all have worked in GRPS for the last 35 years.....

And I lived 28 years in Michigan, taught there, have a brother and two sisters still teaching in KISD school districts, so I can support them if I want.

I moved out here for reasons other than my job and I left my job WILLINGLY, so quit your whining. I can post wherever I want.

By the way, I attended a public school district in NE Grand Rapids area and I received a stellar education. I taught at a private school in GR for four years and I would NEVER send my children there -- brainwashing, lack of diversity, lack of technology, lack of staff training, on and on.....

Not rhetorical: How do you expect the schools to improve if not by upgrading facilities and improving technology?

By cutting costs. If Grandholm or Heartwell were Jim Jones you would have already...... http://www.rivetbangers.com/cgi-php/forums/images/smiles/koolaid.gif (broken link).

Why don't I just hand my whole paycheck over to the Michigan govt. and move to the streets. You are insane if you think money is the answer to all problems but I guess thats why you live in East GR.

I want to know what percentage of a persons income do you believe should be paid in taxes. Micheal Moore thinks it should be 90%. Do you?

All you people need to put down the Grand Rapids Press and start thinking for yourselves.

Br1234,

Instead of going ballistic, can you explain how cutting costs would fix the schools?

I'm not kidding, and not asking rhetorical inflammatory questions.

I'm going to stay civil no matter how much you sling mud. Please do the same.

Thanks!
