Ford Airport's 2014 passenger traffic cruises to new record high | MLive.com

Technically I guess I mean Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Airport posted its highest year ever in terms of passenger traffic for 2014. In 2013 it was ranked 84th busiest airport in the country. Which in a metro area that Ranked 52nd in 2013 shows that it's losing a lot of market share to other airports. Also there are over 2million people with in a 60 mile radius of GRR But also 3 other commercial airports in that radius as well.

They keep improving service routes and options and keep making terminal improvements. Will the airport ever be able to stop the bleeding into the Detroit and Chicago markets? Will it be able to pull passengers away from Lansing and Kzoo and Muskegon? I don't think it can, GRR is a heavy business commuter airport. We don't realize it but the 3 largest companies in the area are all private. They would all be fortune 400 or above if public. On top of that the automotive parts supplier base is also a travel heavy industry. So with a gauranteed customer base, I don't think the airlines out of Ford have any real reason to try and have competitive fares with the major markets.

Does anyone know when the renovations to the Delta Concourse and security checkpoint consolidation is going to start?

The county voted to approve it just a few months ago, I believe.

Bitter January doesn't stop Ford Airport flier numbers from soaring | MLive.com

Airport passenger numbers up 15% in January. Is this a sign of the year to come, or a result of going up against a soft January 2014?

Delta cuts flights at Ford Airport, but will fly bigger planes to Detroit | MLive.com

This is the problem I have with Mlive, from the title of this story it sounds like Delta is scaling back service from GRR. That's not the case at all. Delta is cutting one flight, not flights. This has more to do with Delta's slow continuation of scaling back Cinci as a hub, and really how they are redirecting passenger flow. Which must be frustrating to say the least for the people of the Cinci area. Deltas business in GR continues to pick up. To compensate for dropping one of the flights to Cincinnati, they are going to start flying 757's out of Ford for the super busy Detroit AM flight. I've been on that many times it's crowded for sure.

In other news they are about to start construction on covering the top level of the parking garage so that they can use it year round. I guess when it snows they close the top because they can't plow it and lose about 1100 spaces. Thats a lot of revenue.

Ford Airport records busiest travel month ever | MLive.com

Airport has its busiest month ever. I'd love to see this momentum continue and eventually see the airports passenger rankings equal GR's metro size ranking.

Airport starting 2016 on a high note | 2015-12-25 | Grand Rapids Business Journal

Same news as last year, 2015 was another record breaker for passenger traffic. So far this month they are up more than 10%. I bet the airport moves from 81st busiest(US Airports) in 2014, to 79th. Bypassing Birmingham and Albany.

not with the fluctuation of flights and eliminating several destinations soon SW is the main culprit....when will Alligiant go to LAX, AA go to PHX, Delta go to BOS, JFK, or bring in another low cost like JetBlue.
