How important is it to you that a state's ideological orientation plays a role in whether you want to live there or not? Could you picture yourself living in a blue state? A red state? Does it matter to you?
I'm an independent.
It used to be a non-issue for me, but the older I get, the more comfortable I feel living in a blue state. It just seems like the quality of life, amenities and social tolerance is much better than red states. Blue states seem to have a lot more educated people, too. The only downside about blue states is that they tend to have higher taxes and a higher cost of living. But jobs pay better, so it's kind of a wash.

Red States have education too. Heck California VS texas is a good example.
Regardless this belongs in the political forum.
I would probably go with blue or purple leaning blue.

Texas has some very liberal areas and probably about 30% of California is Republican.
I have lived in a blue state (IL) and a red state (TX) and enjoyed both thoroughly. But then again, I was never involved in politics or talked about politics during that time. I was just living life. I guess I could say I like living in a purple state (FL) because we don't have all that crazy political drama and slander like other states have. You can be whatever you want to be and not have to deal with radicals. However, I am moving to a blue state (California) because I want a different quality of life. I'm buying a home there. But the trick is, I'm buying in a red county. So I will still get to be around my types of people (conservatives) and have a great quality of life without having to deal with radicals.

Well lets put it this way.
If I could afford to move to a blue state and could move my established business there, I would but it's a little late in life to be thinking of that. And truthfully, that's more to do with scenery and the weather than the politics.
Although I will say that although I am as far to the left as they come, I often get annoyed by other people on the left. Especially when they go supporting an increase in sales tax to fund education or something like that. A lot of the time the policies are just as regressive.
And it's like I keep telling people... even blue states have loud mouthed people on the right.
Michelle Bachmann? Rich Santorum? These are some high profile, outspoken, openly hateful rightwingers. Lets not forget ronald reagan and the governator.
The first "NOBAMA" sticker you come across is going to turn that blue state smile upside down.

You're saying you live in florida and don't have crazy political drama?!
I guess you don't read the paper much?
florida has more drama and scandals than any other state in the union.
