Sound kinda like Alien Nation. The leadership of the alien race kept their working caste in thrall via a powerful and addicting drug. Used it as a reward for greater productivity. The harder they worked, the more they got, the more they got, the harder they worked, until they just burned up, and then a new body gets stuffed in the hole.
Use of drugs to keep people managed and controlled is not science fiction though. Been happening for millennia. I think, if the government of the US were to use such a tactic, they wouldn't use pot. Truthfully, I'm sure there is better stuff than even heroin or crack cocaine at their disposal. But, in order to implement such a plan, things would already be out of their control and folks would be on the fight. The bloodbath that would precede the implementation of such a scheme would be beyond rational thought.
Yet, human nature is a finicky and persnickety beast. Ya never know....

What confirms that I'm a troll? What an awful thing to say! I absolutely did NOT post this in order to start a fight, stir up trouble, or otherwise be discourteous to anyone. I just wondered what was going on. That's like a personal rejection, it's absolutely not true.
Point: is the current trend toward decrim/legalization of med or rec mj, actually government sponsored via propaganda.

I can't see why it would be considered "government sponsored propaganda" unless there was something in it for them. ...such as huge profits to be made. Maybe since the U.S gov already has a patent on it they've finally come to the decision to use it.
I also don't believe that "stoned" people are easy or easier to [control] than anyone else....maybe harder, because they aren't screwed up on pharmaceuticals or alcohol, and can make a more thoughtful decision.
Maybe the gov has decided to avail marijuana of it's incredible anti inflammatory properties (which they've known for years) and quick their ridiculous war on it, and make money the more real, and compassionate way ( I know, hard to fathom) ...without locking people up and ruining lives........ by finally allowing them to partake of a wonderfully curative weed.

Conspiracy Theories have always been abundant..and doubt that will EVER CHANGE.. However..Drug's and chemicals have always been part and parcel of American economy...Back in Prohibition Days..Alcohol was banned..Yet despite..Mobster's and their Enforcers bought and paid for protections..in order to game the system...Then came legal ease to cut them down......So now you are suggesting Government is promoting it...How many low level folk are in prison for long sentences NOW??? Millions!!!! Which has fuelled Capitalistic Enterprise (Privatized) who have prisons nationwide!! It's not Govt profiting..BUT Private Sector...

IMO..NOPE NOPE..Once in Private Sector prevue..NO One has oversight!! Blame Politicians for things that they allow..Government whether Fed or State at least have some oversight..Private Sector NOT SO MUCH!!!
