There's a lot of talk about Latinos being considered white in the future of America because of assimilation or intermarriage, but since a substantial amount of Latinos are of Native(Mayan/Andean) or Triracial/Trigueno descent, would that mean that non-hispanic Native Americans/Metis and non-hispanic Biracials/Mulattos/Creoles will be considered "white" as well in the same process.
If not, wouldn't that be unfair to exclude mixed/full Native Americans and Biracial/Creole people from identifying as "white" while their Latino look-a-likes get to enjoy that benefit?
I also have to say...really???
you actually used the word mulatto?
I guess next we can expect negro, frigidaire, and supper

The Pope is Latino because his culture is Latin American, specifically Argentinian. However, he's not a racial minority because he's of European heritage not African or indigenous. BTW, IIRC, a large percentage, perhaps even a majority, of ARgentinians and Urugayians are Europeans, especially Spanish, Italian, and German. Chile also has a fairly high percentage of people with 100% European ancestry, although I think Chileans are more Spanish.
How do you know Did you do an ancestry DNA test on him?
The truth about Latin Americans and race is that they are allowed to self identify so someone as dark as Halle Berry can self identify as white in Latin America.
However, MANY South Americans embrace their African and indigenous ancestry despite the Eurocentric push to "whiten" the population

Years ago (when people used to pay with personal checks at the cash register) a dark person was told checks are not accepted. My blonde wife was told SHE can pay with a check, no problems.
You should be more concerned with why the government is categorizing people by race. There has never been a time in history when there was a good reason for that.
The government doesn't categorize people by race. At one time it did but it hasn't done that in decades.
The government collects demographic data on the US population because it's charged with taking a census by the US Constitution. IOW, it's been collecting info on gender, age, citizenship, and race since 1790. With the 1850 census, the US Census started collecting "social data" such as net worth, birthplace, parents' birthplaces, educational level, etc. The social data questions changed over time. The 1930 census wanted to know if respondents owned or rented, if they had electricity, and whether they owned a radio (my rural grandparents did not, my urban grandparents did). This has always been either self-reported data or data reported by a parent (or in the case of slaves in 1860 and before, owners).
Today, the Amercian Community Survey, collects this same type of social data on a small sampling of Americans in order to create the demographic profile of the American population, only it uses modern survey techniques rather than tallies from individual manuscript census records. As with the actual census, participants self report data. If you get an ACS questionnaire, and your name is Hernandez, you can identify yourself as non-Hispanic and your race as other. Your name can be Jones, and you can identify your self as Hispanic and black. Nobody is going to show up at your door to persecute you for either answer.
Latin Americans are no different from North Americans, racially. Some are white, some are black, some are "mixed", some are Native. It is not necessarily about " who is considered what."
On the other hand, many "quadroon" and "octoroon" types are considered "white" in Latin America.
Are you a Latin American?
Anyone with Afro hair is black regardless of skin color.
