Think, slavery.
Modern society is based on soft economical slavery.
Masters cleverly changed their policy from chains and whips to offerings of "better life". This is exploring oh so strong human desire to "have better life", "live the life to its most". Also, toss in such traits as greed and desire to possessions.
Thus, if you want all this - you have to work, as nothing of it is free. You have to work - you are enslaved to your employer, your business, bank, etc.
And there is no one to blame but you. You want it all - you got to ***** for it.
Or, you can join gay bunch under I-90 here in Seattle and live in tens, being a hobo. Like a bird.
Every morning on my way to work I pass quite a few folks that live in tents and one that sleeps in sleeping bag and uses umbrella for roof. I do not really believe they were "forced" into doing this - or doing otherwise. Pretty much, it's your choice.
Even when landlords keep gentrifying previously affordable housing to the point it's taking your entire earnings to pay the rent ?
I suppose a person could choose not to eat in order to not become homeless *eyeroll*
The only time these conditions are "forced" on anyone is if they choose to live in an urban area. If you expect city services, then they expect you to maintain a bare minimum, including requirements to meet basic human safety standards (sanitation, electricity for food storage, etc.).
So move to a rural area, buy an acre of land for a few hundred dollars, and sleep in a mudhole if you want. But don't expect society to pay your hospital bills when you catch pneumonia.
Housing codes are being tightened up at a rapid pace, even in many rural areas. Government does not want people off the grid, or close to it. They are not expecting services yet they are not allowed to set up homes on their land. This is going on in rural Maine, even in camp-type locations out in the woods.
