Say tomorrow Prostitution were fully free in the U.S saying:

1. Women were fully able to prostitute themselves whether it be in a brothel or on the street and any joe could agree for sex without absolutely no consequences.

2. Every state were fully allowed to open up as many brothels as they want making up whatever rules/regulations they wanted.

What do you think would happen?

Same as decriminalizing marijuana. Less people would be locked up for minor "crimes". It might also reduce the incidence of rape.

It is legal in Nevada, with little issue, other than the occasional brothel bankruptcy.

I doubt that lawyers and politicians would appreciate the competition.

I think some of you folks think this is such an easy answer.

The disease factor...valid.
Victimless crime...sometimes it is, and sometimes prostitution is forced.

It's sort of like gambling. Does legalized gambling eliminate illegal gambling?

Not if they have to have a license for it like in Vegas. Make sure that once a month they get checked out at a clinic. If it comes up that they have an STD then their license is revolted.

Women would lose their control over which men are granted sexual access and which men aren't. This could be a good thing since many of the destructive things men do are motivated by a desire to impress the opposite sex.

Every state is fully allowed to set up their own rules. Besides being against the UCMJ for servicemen and the areas near military bases. It would take away one reason from summarily denying spousal and other immigrant visas. And you would loose the add on charge that police use as a stick to encourage informants

Just as other casinos cut into Las Vegas and Nevada's business so would legal prostitution in locations other than the Nevada desert cut the price of the legal brothels pushing it down toward the market rates that illegal prostitutes now charge.
