The legal age for dropping out of school ranges from 16-19 throughout the 50 states (Texas being the state where it's 19). In some countries in Europe, it's 14. What are your thoughts on the matter?

We need to reform schools so less people want to drop out.

It's not only students who are performing poorly in school that drop out, it's sometimes top performers who are simply bored. I wish I had dropped out when I turned 16 instead of wasting 2 years.

But, it's struggling students that are served worse by dropping out. We need to get to them early so they learn the basics and don't get lost as they get into higher grades.

To answer the question, 15/16 students should have the choice to continue with traditional schooling, or not.

It is not that simple. If my child wants to drop out because he is training to be an olympic champion, or has been hired to be a model, or to train for something that is his passion, then age should not be a factor.

Twelve. Cause professional skateboarders and surfers don't need no educashun.

I think Texas gives up at 19 if you haven't graduated yet. I graduated HS at 16, AA at 19. And I took a year off in between! (Attended two colleges simultaneously for a summer to hit my units.)

Ha. Required education. When a teacher's salary is barter from each parent, many families won't bother with that.

Everyone needs an education - certainly to manage your own business when you work to promote yourself! Even if you can't go to a conventional school, there needs to be an alternative arrangement in terms of online/home schooling.

At least until the age of 16.

Here in Ontario if a student quits school before they have a HS graduation certificate.......They can't get a driver's license until they get to age 21. Works very well.

xxx.
