If they've been Md's for 10 years, they can just retire, cause they are millionaires.

Lily, when Truman recalled MacArthur, there were many in the county, both in and out of the military, who wanted Truman impeached.

My own uncle is a doctor without borders, He doesn't need a thank you. My brother and my two uncles are military veterans, they don't need that thank you either.

Also, my suggestion is simple. Try start a "thank your doctors, garbage collectors, lawyers, accountants, construction workers, etc, etc, etc" group, and start thanking them.

Just because some civilians praise the military service members, doesn't mean they think other groups do not deserve respect or praise. It is not all or nothing, it certainly is not a popularity contest.
Well I’m of the opinion that people don’t really need strangers patting them on the back for doing their jobs. But if they must maybe we could get it all over with on a single day for each occupation, like they do for administrative assistants day. Yeah, it’s a shame nobody ever thought to do that for the military. So I propose we have a day to honor those who serve. We’ll call it “Military Day”. No, that excludes people who are no longer military. Let’s call it Veterans Day. We’ll have it in November. But we really should also honor servicemen who died in battle. We should memorialize them, so let’s call it Memorial Day, and have it the last weekend in May. Gee, I wonder why nobody ever thought of this before?

No, you really didn’t do any of that. I know the nice men at the recruiting center, and at the induction center, and at basic, etc told you that so many times you started believing it, but thats part of how the indoctrination works. Anyway, feel free to keep parroting trite jingoistic pap straight out of a mid 60s John Wayne movie. Or Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men. The fact that you keep resorting to “I fought for your freedom” instead of actually addressing the history I brought up speaks volumes. And aren’t you the pot calling the kettle black, accusing someone else of condescension, when your’re claiming to have preserved the entire country’s freedom and actually used the phrase “You’re welcome.” Thank you for actually validating the OP’s friend’s viewpoint. You know, when I first read the OP, I was skeptical of his story of a friend running into a veteran who was actually so full of himself, but you’ve proved the type really exists.

Love your response! I literally laughed out loud! So many people forget how we get our freedoms. Let those who do not understand go live in one of those suppressed countries and then come back to say how sorry they are for not understanding how lucky they actually are!

So, you haven't really experienced it yet. If you do marry the military member, you may at least get the "spouses" point of view... And... don't mistake someone who does a one time enlistment, compared to a career service member. Huge difference...

Right, our troops fought for our right to free speech, and if someone wants to say something bad about the troops, they shouldn't be in this country. Go live in some other country where freedom of speech isn't valued like it is here....where we want to kick out people who disagree with us...

well thing is:

I don't care what others do or don't do.

For example, if others say "Thank you for your service" to the military veterans, I don't get butt hurt by it.

If i want the military benefits, i know all I have to do is signing up and serve. Since I know I don't have what it takes to serve and I don't want to serve, I won't ***** and moan about military benefits, unlike some people.

by the way, this above is not directed at you, I am just making some general statements. By no means, am I personally attacking you or your character. I don't even know you.

The point is: Just let people do whatever they want. Problem solved. Yes, we do have veterans' day, yes, we do have memorial day. But when some civilians go extra miles and praise the military, I say go for it. I don't have a problem with it. Seems like you do, I really don't know why.

Since only 17% of people entering the service never stay in until pension time, 83% do get a regular job at a young age after leaving the service.
Link to back that up?
