The ones on time are doing what they're suppose to be doing, so punish the habitually late ones.

They make doors which only lock one-way.

I have had professors and teachers who have locked doors once class started. If you had a good excuse, they would even let you in.

Otherwise, your option was to sit in the hall and try to hear through the door.

No one had any complaints about the INSTRUCTOR being late.

If he's 15 minutes late, does that mean that class is canceled?

I think they should do what they did at a college class I took once. We were told
when we were do back in class if we were even 1 minute late the door would be
closed and locked and would be considered a miss. A few students pushed this issue but
found out the teacher meant business and always made it on time after that unless they
had a signed excuse.

What's a minute? Take a poll of 20 different people--all at the same time. Ask them to check the time. I have no doubts that you'll find them to have as much as a five minute variation among them.

Five minutes late? Might be right on time.

Then I'll bet they made sure their watches were correct for the next week of class.

Students shouldn't ever walk in the door just when the class starts. They should already be at their seat and ready to start taking notes. Someone who walks in and takes 5 minutes to sit down and get out their notebook is wasting everyone's time.

If you're on time, you're already late.

I don't need a notebook to take notes. I keep them in my head.

But most people won't do a second's worth of work unless they're on the clock.

Who's to say that the CLASSROOM clock isn't wrong? If you took the poll, you might have the classroom's clock changed to the consensus of what other people believe the time to be.

I got 6:04...who agrees?

This happens in business meetings too. Meeting is called for 9:00AM and since rarely is everyone there on time, those who are time are penalized as the meeting organizer invariably says "Let's wait a few more minutes for everyone to get here."

Gee Thanks.
