Wondering what are your perceptions and perspectives on the matter of politics and religion go hand-in-hand?

The issue of abortion seems to be at the middle of the crossroad between 'politics' and religion. Same as with taxes. (unbeknownst to most people..) I woud even argue that socialized healthcare via government is another topic that seems to be the ever-so-thin line between religion and politics.

One might argue that the word "politics" connotes deviousness and that alone why religion doesn't entwine with politics. The flip-side of the argument could be that there is a perversion of religion or absence of guidance from said religion.

Your thoughts?!.....

(there is a poll....)

Some issues such as abortion and gay rights intermingle politics with religion, but I don't see taxes, zoning, regulation or health care crossing those lines (except for those who choose to view it that way).

i disagree strongly that religion doesn't affect taxation. why are contributions to churches tax deductible? why don't churches have to pay property taxes like every other entity? We are all forced to subsidize organized church businesses with our taxes. many of the current "bush tax cuts" are meant to benefit the married couple with kids crowd since they are the "perfect" model of christianity and therefore deserve all of these breaks and of course vote for bush.

Wehotex, you are looking at specific tax issues, I was discussing it on the broad base of total taxation policy. I can see folks who are religious or not either supporting or opposing various taxes, I don't see a high degree of correlation.

Well they are certainly two very distinct things. Religion is many different things to many different people. It is law, it is spirituality, it is control and it is freedom, depending upon who you ask.

Politics on the other hand is quite easy. Poli =many, and tics= meaning blood sucking parasitic mite.

I think religion is intertwined in politics. This country was founded by religious people for religious freedom. We've spent the last hundred's of years trying to remove every last vestige of it from our system but we're not done yet.

Many of the earliest religious immigrants to this country came so that they could be the perpetrators, rather than the victims, of religious bigotry...

Yes, that can be 'classified' under perversions...

Aren't perversions supposed to be out of the ordinary?

A persons religion and faith determines how they live and who they are, so why would it not be a factor in who and what they vote for. For example, according to a persons religious values they may believe that it is best for a wife and mother to be at home taking care of the family, so therefore that person would probably not be politically aligned with a person or party who was for the ever expanding government and higher taxes, that made it impossible for most families to live on one income.
