Hypothesis = Assumption

Theory = Hypothesis shown to be true through proper testing.

You're kidding, right?

Laws made by humans based on human understanding. Shall we start making a list of "facts" ,"laws" and other such things scientists developed only to be proved wrong?

Scientists created the law of gravity yet can't prove any of it other than as it applies to their limited understanding of what gravity is.

For years we heard from scientists that black holes could not exist, it was science fiction. We've been told that communications could never obtain speeds greater than that of light, yet that has be disproved as well.

The arrogance of the scientific community has done more to hinder the evolution of humankind than anything else. Yeah, scientists with their closed circle of thought, inability to comprehend anything past through own limited knowledge and with the vengeance to ridicule anyone they don't understand or agree with has kept the human race at the level stagnation when it comes to evolution.

That is what a scientific law is. Empirical fact without theoretical explanation.

No to both of these misstatements.

Go for a week with nothing brought to you by the science and engineering community.

Internet
Phone
Car
Air Conditioning
Heating
Indoor plumbing
Electricity
Modern medicine

If you look at the world brought by science and engineering and then look at the contribution by non-scientist/engineers you realize that you non-scientist/engineers live a life that is totally underserved. Non-scientist/engineers are lucky that we scientist/engineers don't treat you the same way bees treat drones.

I came across this article which is quite interesting:

Climate scientists agree: Humans cause global warming

Of those who have an opinion, over 97% say we're to blame

That is a sociological study, plwhit. The methodology seems sound, but it has little to do with the actual subject at hand. Richard Nixon got over 60% of the popular vote. Ask the average person on the street what the three largest component gases are in the atmosphere and most will fail. Ask them what insolation means and they will stare at you. Don't even try asking about the coefficient of heat, the varieties of heat transfer, black body radiation or anything that even begins to approach the educational requirements to give even a half-baked opinion based on fact.

So what you are saying is for anyone to have an opinion on a particular subject they must have gone to college on it?

No wonder why there are such few know-it-alls in this world...

The above is a perfect response to the Earths core is hotter than originally estimated.....

Someone told me once that opinions are like a$$holes. Everyone has one. Most of them stink. We're looking for informed opinions backed up with reliable data, not some half baked idea someone heard on talk radio.
