Electric car prices have gotten shockingly reasonable.

In August, GM took $5,000 off the $40,000 price of its rechargeable Chevy Volt. Thank California, which has passed sales quotas for eco-friendly vehicles -- and helped spark a price war.

So, 35k for a Volt is shockingly reasonable?

Obviously you don't know very much about this topic. Chevy can't sell the Volt which is why they always have rebates.

There is no price war for electric cars. With two real choices, the volt or the leaf, that makes for a price war? Neither of them are selling well.

The only way they become affordable is through a government subsidy, in other words, everyone else is paying so that GM and Nissan can sell cars.

I wouldn't mind having an electric car. $35,000 isn't that bad for a new car. I always buy used cars, so I probably won't have an electric car until they are commonplace.

Daimler's electric Smart Car FourTwo is also available for about $28K, or in a unique arrangement you can buy the "glider" for under $20K and lease the battery.
