Small towns pay low recycling fees? (price, battery, dispose)

All of us know how competition works in the favor of the consumer. Had to dispose of an old car so I hauled it into the local small town recycler. Got $80/ton.

Asked about battery lead. Old codger/main dude said 5 cents/lb. List said 10 cents/lb.

Online pricing shows much, much prices being paid at major facilities. Like 30 cents plus/lb for battery lead. $120-150/ton for cars.

Just wondering.
