Hi, My DH may have a job offer in Greensboro, but I have famliy on the other side of Raleigh so would like somewhere in between. Any thoughts on Burlington/Mebane? We have a toddler and hopefully will have another baby soon, so I am definitely looking for a place that is kid/toddler friendly. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't have kids myself but I can tell you what I know about the Burlington/Mebane area. I have lived in the Burlington/Graham area now for a little more than 2 years. If you want to know something more specific then you may want to mention that in your next post.

I live near Southern Alamance High School and Middle School. My development is more families than anything else, but it also has some retirees and young couples mixed in as well. My street is primarily young families (couples with kids ranging in age from new born to 3 years old). Many teachers and law enforcement live have bought houses out my way and are choosing this area to raise families (I took that as a good sign that this was a safe and family-oriented area).

Schools: My realtor told me that the West Burlington Schools and Southern Alamance Schools were the top two in the county and would be the better choices (if you are planning to settle here until your kids go to school).

Housing: There are a lot of housing choices here. Lots of newer and brand new developments in Western Burlington (closer to G-boro) and in Mebane as well as around the Graham and southern Burlington areas. There seems to be something for every price range. You definitely get more house and property for your money in this area as opposed to Greensboro and Chapel Hill/Durham.

Things to do: There isn't a lot of nightlife in Burlington, but there is a lot of new shopping and restaruants popping up (a new upscale mall). With more people moving here who work in Chapel Hill/Durham/RTP and in Greensboro, more and more retail is coming to Burlington and Mebane and I anticiapte it will continue. You are central to Greensboro/Winston-Salem and Chapel Hill/Durham/Raleigh so you have many options for weekend outings. You are also only an hour from the NC Zoo in Asheboro, NC.

There is still a sense of small town left in Mebane and Graham and there are still rural areas outside of Burlington/Graham/Mebane. I find it fairly peaceful and quiet living right outside of the city limits. You won't find anything big-city in this area.

I feel like I've rambled but I hope I have given at least a snap shot of this area.
