We have heard a lot about highpoint furniture expo held twice a year, here in NC. Is it open to public for buying or is it just for designers/traders/ business owners?

Nope, not open to the public, and they're very strict about checking credentials.
Sad. Are there any particular areas/streets in and around Raleigh that have good number of furniture stores? we have heard a lot about NC being the furniture capital.....

The distinction belongs to High Point but as the factories closed the claim is now more past tense recognition.

The same goes for Hickory, not just High Point. While there is still some furniture manufacturing in NC (mostly upper end lines), most NC-based "manufacturers" primarily import their product these days.
