North State has a definitive plan to expand it's fiber-based services beyond it's traditional service area, to include Greensboro & Winston Salem.

North State is also the official communications provider of the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield.

This sounds interesting enough but IMO is slightly misleading. When we sold our house in High Point a few years ago the fastest speed offering from North State in our area was 12mbs. Not that I'm complaining as I was very pleased with NS service but I don't think it has changed that much in 3 years.
Also one doesn't need a 1gbs connection or even a 80mbs connection to watch Internet TV. Our former 12mbs and current 18mbs connections do the job.
You seem in the loop with NS projects. What happened to the Light Star project?

Hi WFW&P,

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the Light Star project. I do have some visibility into North State projects, but just to be clear, I'm not an official spokesperson. I'm just happy to see what this regional company is doing to evolve & compete with it's national competitors.

You're right, you don't necessarily need 30M to have a good internet-based TV watching experience. With the steady increase of of "smart devices" & other internet-reliant tools (tablets, smart phones, smart tvs, streaming services, online gaming, teleworking, etc.), increased bandwidth will continue to be more & more desirable. The FTTH (Fiber To The Home) Council has an article at the link below, that contains a lot of interesting information about fiber & it's benefits - one section is called "Why We'll Always Need More Bandwidth" - it's pretty interesting, especially when one considers the far reaching, positive impact that fiber based networks can have.

I appreciate your honesty and not posing as an insider. Light Star was a fiber optic project that was to service residential and business customers. From what I understood at the residential level it was limited to new home construction. Before we moved I noticed the mention of the project had vanished from the NS website.
Overall, I am happy with the download speeds I just wish the speed would increase on the upload side.

I for one cannot wait for more options to pop up all over North Carolina. If you do any kind of media uploading you know how terrible cable providers are. I pay for 30mb now lucky if I can even get 15mb most of the time... While Uploads barely a 2mb most of the time.

I'm not sure Northstate Pricing models for internet are but in Wilson, NC If I could go with Greenlight I could get 40mb/40mb for $5 cheaper than what I pay for my cable bills 30mb / 2mb upload which is $60. Also not having to deal with TWC Customer Service should be more than enough for most people to switch.

That's why I went with AT&T U-verse Internet: faster, more consistent speed at a better price.
