Out of the blue!!! Does anyone know why Don Leo's (in Winston-Salem, NC) closed?? I, and many others, called the health department. They said that they are still showing as active. We are shocked because we loved this place. The only thing on the door was "Closed Indefinelty" and the phone has been disconnected. Silly, I know, but what happened?????

No one really knows but there were 2 owners-one who had not been in the restaurant in a while. His family was still in Mexico and our thinking is that maybe there was some kind of family emergency and the other owner decided to shut it down. It is very disappointing - we also loved it and have not found any other mexican restaurant we like as well. They did not do a great business in the evenings and on weekends so it was probably hard to keep it with just one owner. We can only hope things work out and they reopen!

I've never been to Don Leo's, so I don't know what you like in a Mexican restaurant, but in Winston I don't think there's anything better than Las Estrellas (Silas Creek) and El Sombrero (University). For standardized Mexican, Pancho Villa's is great.
