WSPA reported this story yesterday, although the park, which will be located along the Reedy River just west of downtown, has been in the works for at least a few years now. I am glad to finally see the artist renderings and hear an update directly from Mayor White. He has been the primary enthusiast for this project since its earliest proposal.
Wow. I like the looks of this a great deal. It will extend the Riverwalk for multiple blocks and make good use of an area of the river that is currently a wasteland. Excellent news.
Wow, what a big urban park! This is going to be incredible. The development potential here is virtually endless. And the views of downtown will be excellent.

If it gets built. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I don't understand what you mean. If this park, which was first publicly announced more than five years ago, is never built, then there will not be any "chickens" to count. The fact that outside developers remain interested is positive news. With the overwhelming success of Falls Park on the Reedy and the Swamp Rabbit Trail as motivation, plus the anticipated economic boost from private companies as added incentive, the City understands the serious potential this park would ultimately bring to the community.

What i'm saying is that the city doesn't have the money currently to build something like this and probably won't for a while due to the recession unfortunately. With all of the developments that have been announced and then failed to get built over the last few years, I just can't get excited over this park until it's under construction. With that said, this does look like a fantastic park and I truly hope it gets built sooner rather than later.
