Hello, we live out here in the Pacific NW and used to live in an HOA that covered the street lights and our sidewalks and our 4000 sq foot "lot" (house is 1600 sq feet) had lawn about 8x8 in the front that some nice spanish fellows mowed and added bark dust to twice a year. We paid $50.00 per month for that. The guy across the street worked for a wiring alarm system company and parked his large van side of his house on the road (a corner lot) means it was in front of our living room window across the street. His wife was the treasurer of our HOA. We were not too happy with the HOA experience and moved but are in a high morgage on one income. My wife's uncle in SC says that homes are much cheaper and HOA's are much better than what we had. He said positive things and we would like to know what HOA's would have a pool and a clubhouse. We are planning on moving so that my employment (in Gaffney) will establish a chance for us to lower the mortgage and get closer to wife's family in SC. We own a 20 foot boat and pop-up tent (small) camper. We currently have the camper in the garage and the boat in storage occasionally (during winter only) and that costs between 50.00 & 80.00 per month (depends on storage place) so we were wondering:

Are there any neighborhoods someone can suggest for Gaffney employed persons that are HOA's that are flexible and allow the boat? My wife feels Boiling Springs SC is the area we should move to so please refrain from listing many areas that are outside that. We feel that the HOA is value added and would love for our two kids to enjoy the clubhouse and pool.

Ravenwood, in Boiling Springs, on Paris Bridge road. HOA rules all campers, boats, and such must be parked in the pool area which is fenced and has an automatic gate. HOA doesn't have much power when it comes to enforing the rules. As one resident put it, "no one minds the HOA rules."
The school is district two and considered one of the better ones. The children ride their bikes, mini-scooters, and mini 4x4, not only on the streets but also across lawns and in between property. Basketball backboards are on every street. HOA fees are $250. Ravenwood is one place that will allow your boat and provide parking for it. However, the HOA seems lax and children seem to have the run of the place.
IMO, you would do better to find a single home, non HOA, with facilities to house your boat. Home prices and taxes are very low here.
Good luck,
Don

Michael,
I saw your post and am wondering if you have found a home yet? I have a beautiful custom built 4 sided brick home with full basement/kitchenette, in-ground pool/hot tub on 1.7 wooded acres, plenty of extended driveway space for your above needs, on a cul-sac in a very kid friendly neighborhood in the Grassy Pond area of Gaffney. The house is 4500 square feet with the basement, and has 3 bedrooms/3.5 baths, potential for 2 other bedrooms in upstairs bonus over garage or in-law suite in basement. Three fireplaces, huge rocking chair front porch, large back deck, hardwood floors and ceramic tile throughout, ceiling fans in almost every room, built in cabinets and sink in very large laundry room. Currently listed for $349K, we will consider any offer. Wonderful academically aclaimed private school within 10 minutes of the house and also minutes from the huge 85 store outlet mall and Starbucks. Oh, and all this with no HOA fees for this neighborhood. Please tag me back with any questions or if you are interested in viewing our home.
