I was born in Long Beach, CA but grew up on Long Island, NY. CA has insane housing prices, NY has insane taxes.....SC has neither!

We moved here from Ohio, a bit rural. I love it here, but being out in the country is a bit of a culture shock even for us. Please take my suggestion and make sure you come for a visit and look around to find the best area for you.
