I'm sure not everyone does but if Amazon sent you a letter about it you might want to consider declaring it...they may have also informed the State! It's 6%; that shouldn't be a problem for most people! This really belongs in the State forum; not Greenville!
The agreement (12-36-2691E3) was that for the next 5 years, Amazon wouldn't automatically collect sales tax, as they do in certain states (like CA) but instead just send each consumer a total of their total purchases and a link to how they can pay the tax. But they also state they DO NOT provide this info to the state at this time.
Similarly related, paypal has started reporting transactions on accounts that recieved > 20k or over 200 transactions or such.

The tax is still owed otherwise they wouldn't have required them to send the letter in the first place. The Bozo politicians that made this dumb deal probably didn't think that far ahead. They could ask them for it at anytime.
Yep, definately. I consistently report and pay taxes on those NCAA tournament bracket winnings as well.
LOL! So, conversely, I could report the huge losses for getting trounced in the March Madness & Super Bowl pools, and all the fantasy leagues? Hope so, then I'd be in a negative earnings tax bracket!
But is it legal? I mean it's been on the SC tax return for years on reporting what you bought online but is it a law or are they hoping people just report it so they get additional revenue? Personally I don't necessarily keep track of all online purchases and so never report it...

But now that Amazon has an SC presence..hmmm
This is what I'm wondering. I too have never reported it in the past. I never kept track of what all I buy online. Is it legal not to report?
I have a feeling if they tried to fine all the people that hadn't reported this, it would be a lot of people. I've always been confused by this when filling out my taxes.
