Two weeks ago I mowed my Greenville lawn I noticed hundreds of these black bugs with two red lines on their backs, jumping up right as my mower went over. I never noticed them before about two weeks ago.
From a little research I think they are called "two-lined spittlebugs" and they thrive when it's really, really wet, as it has been lately. They may be a threat to the grass, turning it yellow and then brown as the larva suck on the grass blades.
But my grass looks great so far. Are these bugs something I can ignore until dryness and/or winter kills them off? Or is this an urgent thing that I need to treat immediately?
