I disagree somewhat with the above assessment of the breakfast scene in Spartanburg, though I agree we could use a few more good options.
Personally, my favorite is Mon Amie followed by the Crepe Factory. The new place downtown, HenHouse Brunch, is really good - the menu is small, but everything is cooked to order and delicious, with all the breads baked in-house. I like the Farmer's Table as well, and Broadway Bagels has made a resurgence in quality (and crowd size!) after a few down years with some ownership changes. There are all local options. The Skillet is just OK in my opinion. I've also heard great things about LeSpice on the west side, but have not tried it yet.
Chainwise, that is a matter of personal preference, but Panera is generally reliable, and an occasional trip to Waffle House. I avoid Denny's and most other chains like the plague.

There is an Eggs Up Grill that just opened not long ago on 29 in greer . Dennys is probably a no go for me . I dont see how 2 eggs 2 pieces of bacon and 2 pancakes can equal like 1400 calories and 3000mg sodium . I might be exaggerating a little but Other places are only around half that amount .
we look for waffle house . Esp. in new to us areas. WHY? because you can see if the place is clean, and watch them make your food.
We have found several decent, locally owned places in Boiling springs , on hwy 9. they are always busy, so we stop. wish I could remember names, but if you take a drive, they are easy to spot.
I frequent Waffle House weekly. I try several locations, then frequent the locations that are consistently clean, consistently make good food, and are consistently performing well.
Still miss the old Shoney's breakfast bar. Wish they would return. Or better yet an original Big Boy franchise. Frisch's Big Boy is still popular and revitalizing under new owners in Kentucky and Ohio, and the national Big Boy chain exists in Michigan, as well as their Bob's Big Boy locations in California.
