Just curious what length of time people took to find there home. Yep, I know everyone's needs are different and some may settle quicker than others, just thought I would see if there is a typical length of time.
Also how many homes did you look at before you bought?
The reason I'm asking is I trying to figure out how long I should sign a lease for.
I rented an apartment when I moved to Greenville in 2014 and signed a lease for 14 months. In 2015 I started looking at houses in June and didn't close on a house until October. I looked at about 15 houses. I had preferences of square footage and room updates, but it really came down to location, convenience, and if people took care of their homes in the neighborhood.
I can't tell you how many houses looked perfect online only to find it was the best looking house in the neighborhood (by far).
I didn't have to move, so I took my time, and had a very patient duo of real estate agents who knew this. I was told I had the largest file. The house I bought was the 3rd one I had put a contract on. It was well over a year of searching.

I'm doing exactly what you did. I'm just struggling with the length of time I need to find a home. I'm retired now so I dont have a time issue. Hate singing a yr. lease and then finding something in a few months and being responsible for the remaining lease. I have great credit rating and want to keep it that way. At this point I'm thinking 5 months is a safe bet for a apt. lease.
Well let me throw this out, and you guys and gals tell me what you think I'm up against. I would like a 3/2 one story w/2 car garage. 1600 sq.ft +/- . Hard wood floors. Updated kitchen, siding of fiber board or brick, no HOA but still up in the air about this. Private back yard or semi private, I just don't want to sit on deck and look both ways and see a row of people's back yards. I like the buffer of trees in the back. The area would be Simpsonville, fountain Inn, maudlin and also open to other areas. This would need to be a new home or a home that's not more that 10yrs old.
So what do you think? Doable? or am I a candidate for a builder.
