Walmart has scaled back the number of new stores opening after eliminating Walmart Express and closing Walmart, Walmart Supercenter, Walmart Neighborhood Market, and Sam's Club stores in 2016. Walmart Supercenter #6223 could be a store whose plans have been delayed or, as it appears, cancelled.

They would be competing against themselves.
It's not that far of a drive to the TR , White Horse Rd , Wade Hampton (Taylors) SuperCenters and Neighborhood Markets on Wade Hampton and the one on Old Buncombe at Duncan Chapel. It's just not needed.
Good Riddance I say.
Enough Walmart's in this area. Hopefully some other retail will land on that property that we don't have on this side of town.
It's all about convenience. Honestly, I thought it was a good idea. The location that it was going may only be 6-7 miles from existing Walmarts but many people live further out than that and have to travel much more. There's nothing similar in that area. I know there are people that don't care for them but there are others that do. Just sayin
If Target had a store near Cherrydale, I could see Walmart responding with a Walmart Supercenter. Walmart has no competition north of Greenville. It would be counterproductive to compete against itself with another store. Why bother with opening another store?
