I know the they're coming from a service company but who else is tired of the almost weekly mail from Piedmont Gas trying to sell gas line coverage. I only have about 5 or 6 feet total gas line in my home and they could almost give the coverage to me for what the constant mail costs. I've started using the prepaid return envelope to return the letters with my message scrawled across the page. Sometimes I'll also enclose a few expired coupons, a picture of my dog and whatever else I can stuff into the envelope.
I feel similarly about certain credit card companies (Discover, Capital One) and almost every charity I donate to. With the latter I give a single lump sum payment to a number of organizations once a year, in December as an end of year tradition of giving thanks. They then squander money mailing envelopes of glossy PR materials all year. Surely they have better things to spend money on?
It galls me that Piedmont Natural Gas, Laurens Electric and others can traffic in our personal information, but I really can't blame them. Blame it on Congress, fed by business interests, which opened up that Pandora's box years ago. There is nowhere we can go to escape from the bombardment of advertising - not even our own homes.
Meanwhile, these agencies and institutions spend no money of their own on these advertisements. They get paid for the use of the mailing lists, and the third-party insurance carriers foot the entire bill. None of these parties would be engaged in these shenanigans if it wasn't profitable for them.
I get one about every other week at least from Piedmont Gas. They upped their game this week though, it's now in an 8X10 envelope. As long as they keep including those return envelopes I'll keep sending them everything I can stuff in it. Tomorrow I'm including all the hearing aid offers I've received recently, because apparently somewhere in the cloud some being has decided I'm going deaf.

Just tape the envelope to an old tire.
